James Adair - Chess International Master.
He writes about The York Junior Chess Day 2016:

"It was a real pleasure to be part of such a fantastic initiative for kids, brought to bear through the hard efforts of the White Rose Junior Chess Academy. I know for myself as a youngster that being involved in chess had a positive impact on my development, not just for it being an excellent competitive game in itself but also due to the numerous opportunities it gave to travel and interact with people from all warps of life. I see it therefore as a real credit to the organisers who have succeeded in giving chess a much needed boost in an area where typically it would have received a scarce amount of attention. The day proved to be enjoyable both for the parents and in particular the 60 children participating in the event. I was impressed with the maturity displayed by the participants who were very friendly towards each other during the tournament and also really engaged with us during the short coaching session provided by Lateefah and myself."

"Hopefully there will be more great events like this to follow in the near future!"

Lateefah Messam-Sparks is a former England chess junior squad member. Lateefah is now a consultant and chess coach from the London area.
She writes :
"It was a delight to be a part of York Junior Chess Day."
"It was fantastic to see so many enthusiastic, bright and passionate chess children and I hope to see many of these juniors playing and enjoying chess in the future."
